Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's soon-to-begin pre-monsoon works will focus on preventing water-logging this year. On August 29, 2017, Mumbai had come to a halt after flooding hit several parts of the city. The flooding resulted in the civic body and traffic officials jointly identifying the worst affected areas, which amounted to 255 flooding spots.

"Of the total 146 chronic locations, we plan to give relief to at least 50 locations, of which some spots are eliminated and some will receive partial relief. We expect this to result into 30 to 40 per cent relief from water-logging across Mumbai", said an official from Storm Water Drains (SWD) department.

The pre-monsoon works will include identifying issues like where the chok-up occurs in drains that lead to water logging, or if any links leading to the drains are missing et cetera. Since working on all 146 identified locations at a time is difficult, the civic body has prioritised only 50 locations for the time being. Some of the major 50 locations include Hindmata, Elphinstone Road, Kherwadi, Andheri Subway, Vakola, Santacruz, Bhandup, Kurla, Sakinaka and so on.
