Youngsters from across the country participated in the Tilonia Bazaar Exhibition, organized by Barefoot College at Nariman Point, to showcase the artistic work of rural India. Few have been conducting fellowships in rural areas with an aim to give the villagers better training and help increase their income.

A week-long exhibition at Kamalnayan Bajaj Hall, Nariman Point showcases more than 100 varieties of handicraft materials made by over 400 artists.

Speaking about what inspired her to help a bamboo jewelry artist in a village of Gujarat, Saloni Sacheti said, “I work with an artist who makes handicraft using bamboo. They don’t get to explore and sell their artwork on more platforms. We help them by organizing an exhibition in urban areas so that they get benefits of their own work. Their artwork involved basic designs. By working with them, we help them design according to the trendy lifestyle of the urban population. This technique helps them be more creative and earn more.”

Nishit Sangomla said, “I wanted to be part of the rural skill development initiative to aid the rural population with the help of innovative ideas and techniques. and help them to grow their business. Through this, they get earn a good livelihood for their family. The younger generation too are inspired by their family’s artistic business.”
