In a recent case of divorce which was settled by a Pydhonie-based NGO, two brothers who got married ten years ago to two sisters, divorced them by sending talaqnama through post. The main reason the two husbands cited was their wives messaging continuously on Whatsapp.

The two brothers suspected their wives of being in a relationship with their friends. Their suspicions were based on intimate messages shared by them on WhatsApp.

The NGO public complaint centre, an alternate dispute resolution form, which helps resolve marital disputes among Muslim couples, has now advised Muslim women to use mobiles and WhatsApp cautiously.

Chief Organiser, Abdul Razzak Maniyar, of Public Complaint Centre said, "In many cases where there has been an amicable settlement, the centre has seen that husbands or the in-laws ask the wife to completely stop using mobile phone or social media, if she wants to return."

In another case which recently concluded before the NGO, a couple residing in Kharghar had separated because the woman excessively used her mobile phone. The husband while acceding to compromise, put in a term that the woman would not use the mobile phone, which was agreed upon. They are now staying together.
