Every year, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education pays SSC board exams examiners and moderators when the mark sheets reach the schools. However, the state board has still not paid examiners and moderators for their work this year.

While examiners are paid Rs 4.25 for every exam paper they correct, the moderators are paid around Rs2500 for checking the work of examiners (each moderator gets 1600-2000 papers). Teachers who work as examiners get an average of 200 papers for correction. But this year they were given almost 300-350 papers for correction, claim the officials of Teachers Democratic Front (TDF).

Rajesh Pandya, Vice President of TDF, said, "Examiners and moderators have complained that they have not received their pay though the SSC results were declared on June 26. The money has not reached the teachers, who despite of election work, did not delay paper correction."

Echoing the sentiments of Pandya, Anjana Prakash, principal of Hansraj Morarji Public School, said, "The board pays nominal amounts to the school for conducting the exam as well as the supervisor. But neither my school nor my supervisor have received any amount from board. My school teachers who worked as examiners and moderators are still waiting for their dues."

When contacted, the Mumbai Divisional Board chairman Laxmikant Pandey remained unavailable for comments.
