Former Dahisar MLA Vinod Ghosalkar is in a spot yet again. Congress corporator Sheetal Mhatre has alleged that the Shiv Sena Vibhag Pramukh is using the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) funds to construct a swimming pool under the guise of a permanent Ganesh immersion pond in Dahisar Sports Foundation. Earlier, Ghosalkar was embroiled in a controversy after corporators from his own party levelled allegations regarding his bad behaviour.

"How can a Ganesh immersion pond be permanent? Artificial immersion ponds are temporary. Ghosalkar has already collected Rs 25,000 from each member to construct a swimming pool a decade ago. Now he is just using the BMC money to fulfill his promise," said Mhatre, who has taken up the issue with the Standing Committee, and had also urged the Additional Municipal Commissioner to inquire into the matter.

Denying all allegations, Ghosalkar said rather than concentrating on her ward and its developmental issues, Mhatre is always more interested in other people's areas. Explaining the idea for the immersion pond, he said, "I had requested the authorities to consider my proposal for a permanent pond, as constructing artificial ponds every year not only costs a lot but also damages the ground. Every time an artificial pond is prepared, the ground is excavated. Then we have to ensure that the excavated soil is disposed off properly. The construction activity goes on for a week."

He added, "After immersion, the residue has to be shifted and the pond has to be uprooted, further damaging the ground. So we decided to dedicate a permanent place for the pond."

Ghosalkar said the allegations that it was a swimming pool did not hold water. "Can a swimming pool be a size of 10x20 feet? The immersion pond is small compared to a pool. A corporator for two terms should have at least done her homework," he retorted.
