Almost two months after a young TCS employee, Esther Anuhya, was brutally killed, the crime branch was successful in arresting the first accused in the case, who is suspected to be the prime accused.

Chandrabhan Sanap, 28, who used to shuttle between his Nashik and Kanjurmarg homes, was arrested on Sunday around 11.30pm and produced before a metropolitan magistrate court on Monday. The court has remanded Sanap in police custody till Mach 15.

The prosecution told the court that it had gone through the footage of the CCTV at the railway station, showing an unidentified person escorting Esther out. After questioning a number of people, the police zeroed in on Sanap.

"The accused used to work as a porter at the station and, later on, drove a private vehicle, showing tourists around. Investigators wants to interrogate him about Esther's missing articles and also search his two homes. Hence, they plead the court to grant 10-day police custody," argued the prosecution.

The remand application, which dna had access to, read that the accused had several theft cases registered against him, with the Manmmad, Nashik Road and Itarsi railway police stations and Gamdevi police station.

The accused has accepted his role in the crime and, hence, the agency (crime branch) wants to find out the main motive and whether he was accompanied by other men, read the remand application.
