The Bombay High Court on Tuesday asked the government to enumerate short term/long term steps it has taken to tackle shortage of water for the month of May and June in the Marathwada and Vidarbha regions of the state.

A division bench of justices VM Kanade and MS Karnik said is the government considering postponing major gatherings? Has there been assistance from the central government? "In our earlier order, directing shifting of Indian Premier League (IPL) matches out of Mahrashtra, we noted that it is not the solution and more things need to be done," the bench said.

Acting advocate general Rohit Deo assured the court that government had taken steps to provide water during the next two months. Be it by train or other routes it will do its best to supply water to the affected areas. To which the court said "it would like to know whether any long term measures are being considered", and citing the example of Australia, it said: "If there is less rain then authorities over a period of time start conserving water, it's not like that you're in the month of April and suddenly there is no water."

The court has now posted the matter for further hearing on May 5. The directions were given during the hearing of a bunch PIL highlighting the drought like situation in Maharashtra and lack of steps being taken by the government.
