You can look to book your dates for an open air classical music night at the Town Hall, Asiatic Library this weekend.  The Indian Heritage Society-Mumbai, supported by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), will be organising a two-day Mumbai Sanskriti Festival on January 13 and 14.

This year, the two nights will have eminent vocalist Kaushiki Chakraborty and Santoor maestro Pandit Satish Vyas perform on January 13 and 14 respectively. The programme will start at 7 pm and is free for all.

Kaushiki is daughter of Ajoy Chakraborty and belongs to the Patiala Gharana. She will accompanied by Satyajit Talwalkar on tabla. Santoor exponent Pandit Satish Vyas will perform on January 14 and will be accompanied by two renowned tabla players, Aditya Kalyanpur and Ojas Adhiya.

Under Santoor legend Pandit  Shivkumar Sharma’s tutelage, Pandit Satish Vyas  honed his musical skills. “This is the 26th edition of Live Music to Save Heritage. We have been doing this in second weekend of every year. At Town Hall this is the eighth year. This year we have a vocalist and instrumentalist so that people can enjoy both,” said Anita Garware, chairperson of India Society-Mumbai supported by MTDC.

The body looks to create awareness on different heritage sites through live music.

The initiative started in 1992 when a show was held at another heritage site — The Banganga in Walkeshwar. After it was declared a silence zone, the festival was moved to Town Hall at Asiatic Society.
