The Elgaar Parishad rally demanding the arrest of Sambhaji Bhide for instigating the Bhima-Koregaon violence took place on Monday at Azad Maidan. The Elgar March, organised by the Bahujan Mahasangh leader, Prakash Ambedkar, saw the gathering of many at the Azad Maidan.

The protesters alleged that Shivpratishthan founder, Sambhaji Bhide, had fomented the violence on January 1 while the Dalits were celebrating the completion of 200 years of the Bhima Koragaon battle, leading to the death of one.

Vaishali Ahire from Shrirampur Nagar district was one of the many people who traveled to the city for attending the Elgaar rally.

"I was there on that day at Bhima-Koregaon. They were throwing stones from one side," she said.

"Bhima-Koregaon celebrations has been happening for several years now. Why all of a sudden did a problem happen only this time?," said Vatsala Dive from Shirdi, another protester who voiced concern over the issue.

The rally saw the participation of several organisations which lent their support and took the total number of people gathered to more than thousands. The protesters shouted slogans against the government and called for their fellow community members to come out and join them. They waived giant flags and even broke the police barricade at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus to reach their fellow protestors.

"Even the media has been biased. Not enough is reported about our problems. The media did not show our protest like they did in case of the Marathas or any other community. They showed it in a big way. Media should leave their casteism aside," said Priyanka Sukhdeo, a social worker.
