Six persons in an elevator trapped between two floors of a new 14-storey building at the KEM Hospital, Parel caused an alarm on Friday night.

All the six persons were rescued safely by the fire brigade.

The incident occurred around 11:30pm on Friday when the lift developed a snag between the third and fourth floor and was stuck for nearly half-an-hour, creating anxiety attack among those stuck inside.  “Our men reached the spot as soon as we received a call from the hospital. Fortunately, everyone was rescued unhurt,” a fire official said.

The fire brigade had pressed one engine into service.

Meanwhile, chief of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) health committee, Geeta Gawali, has said the department will probe into the incident. “The incident occurred at the 14-storey new building of the hospital. So, the dean of the hospital will first speak to the engineers concerned. Subsequently, a report will be filed and shared with us. Based on that, we will decide what action needs to be taken next,” Gawali said.
