The state electoral department has assured that it would invite those citizens whose names were missing from the voter lists and so could not vote in the elections, to check their names and register all over again.

"Our first priority is to get those voters who have not been able to vote to register their names," said an official of the electoral department. "Then, we also want to ensure that those whose names are listed in two places get their names deleted from one of the lists."

The official informed that application for registration of names would be accepted in Form 6, whereas Form 7 would have to be used for deletion of names from the voters' list.

"A large number of names have been found to appear in the lists in two constituencies. According to the census there should have been about 8.06 crore voters in Maharashtra, but it seems that the number is much more," the official said.

The electoral department will initiate the process after the counting of votes and declaration of results is completed.
