Eight runners from Thane-based group, Runtastic Dil Se, will be participating in 'Performax Bangalore Ultra 2015' on November 7.

The Bangalore Ultra Marathon is considered as the longest running Ultra Marathon in the Indian subcontinent and runners from across the world participate. This marathon is characterised by prolific ultra runners from around the world. They have well stocked aid-stations and unparalleled runner support.

The Ultra Marathon will be organised on November 7 and 8 and the eight participants from Thane have chosen the criteria of 100km and 75km respectively. K Haridasan Nair, a former servicemen, a runner with an experience of 30 years and who has trained these candidates, will also participate and is running 75km.

"This Ultra Marathon is extremely difficult because it comprises forest trails. Extensive training is required as it's an endurance run and has to be completed in 24 hours," said Nair.

"We have started training since the last one-and-a-half months. To get acclimatised to different conditions, we ran across the stretch of Mahalaxmi Racecourse, Juhu Beach, Gateway to Malad and Yeoor hills," said Rahul Agarwal, a participant.

All the participants are undergoing strengthening-related training for the endurance run along with proper diet. Over 1,000 participants are expected to participate in the event and once qualified, the runner can participate in any marathon across the world.

The Ultra Marathon will start at 5am, so the runners will have to carry a torch for at least an hour and will also repeat the loop as instructed by the organisers. The route consists of 1km loose stone and 11.5km forest trail. The participants are eyeing for Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon in January.

"With this endurance run, I am also targeting to participate in comrades marathon that takes place in South Africa. It is a 12-hour run, covers 89km and includes seven hills in the route. This marathon is also considered as one of the most reputed runs globally," added Agarwal.
