ED wants UK help to bring back Lalit Modi

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday submitted its arguments before a special Prevention of  Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court seeking issuance of a letter of request to the competent authority in the UK for assistance in execution of a non- bailable warrant against former IPL chairman Lalit Modi, so that he can be brought back to India. 

The court presided over by judge PR Bhavke said that it would pass orders on the issue on Wednesday.  

The ED application said, “The ED is the sole investigative agency under the Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue, Government of India, for conducting investigations under the provisions of PMLA against money laundering offences. This application is filed with a prayer for issuance of a letter of request to the competent authority in the government of United Kingdom for mutual legal assistance for the execution of the open ended non-bailable warrant (NBW) dated August 6, 2015, issued by the PMLA court against Lalit Modi, which is judicial document and for the transfer of the suspected accused person to India.”  

The transfer of the accused is required for the purpose of his joining in the probe being conducted by ED dated December 2012, registered against him under PMLA Act.
