Starting June, the width of the Eastern Express Highway (EEH) and LBS Marg will get narrower, with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will start barricading select stretches for the construction of Wadala-Thane-kasarvadavli Metro-4 corridor.

However, this time, the MMRDA has said it will not barricade the whole alignment together, but proceed step-wise to avoid traffic snarls.

Along with this, Metro work for DN Nagar-Mandale Metro-2B will also start in the next one month, for which barricades will be installed near the Bandra-Kurla Complex. To avoid traffic jams due to this, the MMRDA has requested offices in BKC to stagger work hours.

Pravin Darade, Additional Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, said, "The barricading for both Metro-4 and Metro-2B will start by June, but this time we won't barricade the entire stretch at one go, but go in phases as the work commences. This will the burden with regards to traffic management."

Installation of barricades for Metro-4 will start from Bhakti Park in Wadala and pass through Anik Bus Depot and further continue through Suman Nagar in Chembur. From thereon, barricades will be installed at EEH till Amar Mahal junction. Barricades will be installed at Garodia Nagar via Service Road on EEH and will extend to LBS Marg from where it will further pass through Mulund toll naka, entering Thane therefrom.

The deadline for the completion of both the Metro lines is around 24 months from the date of commencement of civil works, and the contractors will also get incentives if it is completed before the stipulated deadline.

Civil work for Metro lines on WEH and Link Road, connecting Dahisar and Andheri, is around 45 per cent complete.
