Make sure you switch off those lights between 8.30pm and 9.30pm on Saturday as it's the Earth Hour.

In its sixth year, bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor, has joined hands with WWF-India to raise awareness and inspire action against climate change.

Emphasising his support, Arjun Kapoor said, "I am honoured to be a part of such a pertinent cause."

Rituparna Sengupta, communication head, WWF said, "This year, we are going beyond just saving energy. We are concentrating on making people switch to renewable energy. We will encourage individuals to adopt household products powered by renewable energy. We will campaign for corporates to adopt renewable energy solutions and government to promote policies favourable to the production and uptake of renewable energy."

WWF is also kick starting a campaign on March 29, in CBSE schools to promote renewable energy. "We are approaching around 15,000 schools. We will be giving them 10-15 ways to use renewable energy. In the next six months, the schools should implement most of these ways. The school who will implement the maximum ways provided by us, will be awarded," said Sengupta.

WWF will also be encouraging crowd funding that will be utilised in getting solar lights in 46 villages near Sunderban, West Bengal. "The idea is to end the human-tiger conflicts in these 46 fringe villages of Sunderban," said Sengupta.

As an Earth Hour 2014 initiative, the WWF is launching interesting mobile apps to promote renewable energy. "One of the apps will help the user to get ways of reducing energy consumption. Another app is for helping the user have information on renewable market places. This will direct them to closest vendors selling renewable energy products," said Sengupta.
