'e-' is the way, CM Devendra Fadnavis tells babus

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday instructed state officials to celebrate 2015 as the year of providing digital and time-bound services to the people by adopting modern technology. He asked babus to deal with him through electronic files (e-files).

Fadnavis held a meeting of senior bureaucrats for implementing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Digital India program. The CM asked the officials to prepare all proposals and files in e-format to speed up decision making.

Digitisation of land records
Land-related documents such as 7/12 extracts of property and mutation records must be digitised, said the CM. He said that if there is no space in Mumbai for a bigger data center, the facility can be developed in Aurangabad and Nagpur. He instructed that the entire work pertaining of CM's relief fund be made online. He also talked of taking the web route to RTI-related work, mandatory e-auctions, e-chalan system for the police department and online school curriculum to relieve students of heavy school bags.

Satellite imagery to assess crop damage
The CM has decided to appoint a committee of four senior secretaries to put in place a technology-based system to assess crop damage with the use of satellite imagery. Maharashtra Remote Sensing Center officials demonstrated the use of remote sensing technologies in different fields. Fadnavis said use of satellite images will help government to intervene in a speedier manner.

Caste verification to be expedited
A separate additional collector will be appointed in each district, who will be responsible for verification of caste certificate applications. With caste verification job being done at only eight locations, nearly 1 lakh applications are currently pending throughout the state.

Vinod Tawade to head Maratha quota panel
The CM has decided to appoint Education Minister Vinod Tawade as the president of the committee that will look in to the issue of Maratha reservation. The Bombay High Court recently stayed the state's decision on quota for Marathas. The state has decided to approach the apex court in this regard. Minister for Cooperation Chandrakant Patil, leader of opposition Eknath Shinde, former deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, former Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil and secretary of the law and judiciary would be the members of this committee.
