About a month after Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued a notice to a Navi Mumbai medical college, terminating the agreement between the two—the reason being given that the college had repeatedly failed to comply with the terms and conditions of the agreement—the college has sent a defamation notice to BJP corporator Ashwin Vyas, who was following up the issue with BMC.

As per the notice, the college has fulfilled all its promises under the MoU signed between the civic body and itself. And it was acknowledged by the BMC standing committee, which had gone on record saying that the institution had not defaulted on payment of licence fees, and that it had completed construction of 38,827 sq ft at the civic Rajawadi hospital.

The notice has also mentioned that BMC had never recommended the name of any meritorious student that it wanted admitted in the college, and that the civic body's claim that the college hadn't given admission to any such student is false.

The notice issued on Aug 16 by municipal commissioner Sitaram Kunte, to the managing trustees of Dr DY Medical College in Nerul (who include Dr DY Patil, governor of Bihar), states that the agreement between the civic body and the college stands cancelled.

Vyas is however sticking to his stand. "Whatever I have said are based on facts and figures. The trust did not provide services as agreed upon to the various hospitals as per the terms of contract. The medical college has to pay BMC more than Rs5cr. The truth is there for all to see."
