Even as parents of children studying in schools of the Indian Education Society (IES) are protesting against the fee hike done this year, the deputy director of school education has issued a letter to one of the institutes regarding the same.

In April, parents of those studying in the secondary section of IES Modern English School in Dadar (West) complained to the deputy director against the school. The complaint was regarding the fee hike by the school for the second consecutive year. Parents had alleged that the school had increased fees by 15% this year compared to last year.

The deputy director's letter to the school states that it can't go through with the hike and that the fees for 2016-17 should be the same as those charged for 2015-16.

A parent said, "It's a partial relief for the parents right now. We are happy that the deputy director has taken action on our complaint and issued a letter to the school, but it remains to be seen whether the school will follow the education department's instructions or not. We have already sent fees to the school as per what was charged last year."

"We have got a copy of the deputy director's letter, but we will wait for the school to announce that its fees will be as per last year's. Our children were told by their teachers to tell us that the fees decided as per this year need to be paid by June 25."

According to the parents, the school took approval to hike the fees from the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of the academic year 2014-15. For the current year fees, there has been no approval from the PTA of 2015-16.
Despite messages and calls to school authorities, no one was available for comment.
