Duo tries to smuggle Rs1.25 crore gold in eyeholes of belts, held

The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of airport customs on Thursday arrested two passengers for smuggling gold wires worth Rs1.25 crore by concealing them skillfully inside the eye hole of 42 belts and two caps.

The duo followed the modus operandi of meeting and exchanging their bags at the transit area of the city airport before proceeding to their scheduled destination, the AIU officials said. The arrested accused have been identified as Karamvir Sirohi and Sanjeev Kumar.

According to Deputy Commissioner (AIU), Kiran Kumar, while Sirohi was going to katmandu after arriving from Dubai, Kumar was on his way to Delhi. "The arrest was made based on the specific information received about the duo," said Kumar.
