An abusive voice message via WhatsApp led to the death of a 27-year-old man in Mumbra on Tuesday, allegedly at the hands of his two friends to whom he had sent the message.

The Mumbra police arrested one of the accused on Wednesday.

Imran Ansari had allegedly sent a message full of abuses to his two friends 15 days ago.

On January 7, his friends, Anil Gupta, 25, and Rizwan Sayyed, 26, allegedly hatched a plan and called Ansari to meet them near Achanak Nagar in Mumbra.

As soon as Ansari reached, they started asking him why he had sent them such an abusive message. The argument became heated and soon turned violent, with both Gupta and Sayyed allegedly hitting him with sharp weapons, including a knife.

Ansari started bleeding profusely and succumbed to his injuries. A police complaint against the two was lodged on Wednesday.

A police officer said, “We have caught Anil Gupta, Rizwan Sayyed is absconding. We are searching for him. This all happened over a small tiff. We produced Gupta in court and he will be in police custody till January 13.”

The accused has been charged under sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
