A full emergency was declared at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) on Sunday, following a suspected engine fault in an Emirates Airways flight from Dubai. All 231 passengers on board are reported to be safe.
According to airport sources, the pilot of flight EK-506 (Dubai to Mumbai) contacted the air traffic control, requesting for an emergency landing due to a possible snag in the engine. Subsequently, emergency services like fire brigade and ambulances were put on alert during the landing which took place at 2.12pm. The full emergency was later said to be withdrawn at 2.20pm.
An Emirates Spokesperson said, "Emirates flight EK506, an Airbus A330, from Dubai to Mumbai landed safely today at 14h12 local time. As a precautionary measure, the flight was given priority clearance for landing, following a minor technical issue. At no point was the safety of the flight in jeopardy..."
