Three weeks after a local court refused her bail, corporate lawyer Janhavi Gadkar, accused of crashing her car into a taxi and causing the death of two persons, today filed another application for release on the ground that the investigation in the case was over.

"Gadkar has moved another application. She says she should be granted bail now as the investigation in the case is over," said a police officer. The application is likely to come up for hearing on July 22 before magistrate Richa Khedkar.

On June 26, Khedkar had rejected Gadkar's bail plea, saying that there was a possibility of the accused influencing the witnesses.

Being a woman and a highly qualified lawyer were not sufficient grounds for release on bail in a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, the court had then said.

In the early hours of June 10, an Audi car driven by Gadkar, who was allegedly drunk, rammed a taxi on the Eastern Freeway here. The driver of the taxi and a passenger died in the mishap.
