Drunk driver injures ​4 persons, damages vehicles

Four persons including a couple were left injured after a 30-year-old Nallasopara resident in an inebriated state rammed into five vehicles at Borivli. The man was chased down by other motorists and was handed over to the Kasturba Marg police.

According to the police, Mukesh Jain was allegedly speeding after he lost his way back home as he was drunk. Boriva​li couple Kiran Pednekar and his wife Keemaya were hit by ​the ​car driven by Jain at Road No 2 after he rammed into few bikes, two auto rickshaws and a Maruti Eeco.

He was later stopped near road no 3 and was thrashed by other motorists.

"The angry motorists handed him to the police. We then got Jain’s medical examination conducted at Shatabdi Hospital. The medical report will ascertain the alcohol content he had consumed," said a Kasturba Marg police officer.

"We have seized his license and have arrested him under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) under Indian Penal code and under the Motor Vehicle Act sections for 134 (not providing medical assistance to injured) and 185 (driving by a drunken person), said the officer.
