The Thane sessions court judge HM Patwardhan on Tuesday declared actress Mamta Kulkarni and her husband Vicky Goswami as an absconding accused in the Rs 2,500 crores worth drug haul case and termed them as 'proclaimed offenders'. The court is likely to attach the two properties of Kulkarni located in Andheri and will issue Red Corner Notice (RCN) against the duo in the next hearing.
On April 18 2016, the Thane crime branch raided the Solapur unit of Avon Lifesciences and had seized Ephedrine- used to produce party drug methamphetamine worth Rs 2500 crores. Manoj Jain, Director of Avon Lifescience and 16 other persons were booked including Mamta Kulkarni and Vicky Goswami for production of drugs and its smuggling.
In January this year, Vicky Goswami was extradited from Kenya to USA by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) on charges of dealing with drugs. While on March 27, 2017, Non bailable warrant was issued by the Thane sessions court against Kulkarni and the international drug lord, Vicky Goswami.
"We have enough evidence to prove that Kulkarni and her husband Goswami were directly involved in producing and smuggling drugs. Moreover the police have also taken the statements of neighbhours in Andheri which is the last known address of Kulkarni.", said Shishir Hiray, Special Public prosecutor.
"The court noticed that the accused are proclaimed offenders and declared them as an absconding accused in the case," said Hiray.
The police have identified two properties of Mamta Kulkarni in Oshiwara area of Andheri which is likely to be attached by the court, "We are putting forward the case infront of the court to issue red corner notice against the duo and permission to attach their properties in Andheri. We are yet to verify if Vicky has properties in Gujarat," said Hiray.
Meanwhile, a senior Thane police officer revealed, "After the arrest of Goswami by DEA, Kulkarni has fled from Kenya and after the court directs to issue Red Corner Notice against Kulkarni we will extradite her for the formal arrest and interrogations."
