Driver of generator van loses control of vehicle, killing two

One pedestrian and a motorist died on the spot in an accident under the Gandhi Nagar bridge at Vikhroli after the driver of a generator van lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the two.

According to the Parksite police, a generator van was travelling from Powai towards Bhandup on Sunday afternoon, when the brakes of the vehicle failed and dashed into two motorcycles and a pedestrian under the Gandhi bridge.

The deceased have been identified as Prakash Dinkar Chavan, 54, who was walking, and Lalchand Gupta, 59 who was on his motorcycle when the accident happened.

Narrating the chain of events, an officer from Parksite police station said: "The generator van was coming from Powai and heading towards Bhandup at a great speed. When the van reached the Gandhi bridge, the driver lost control of the vehicle and dashed two motorcycles and one pedestrian."

He added: "Two people died on the spot, while two were seriously injured and were rushed to Rajawadi hopsital."

The driver of the van, Santosh Yadav, 23 was immediately arrested by the Parksite police and has been booked for death due to negligence, rash driving, and under relevant sections of Motor Vehicles Act.
