A sessions court on Thursday granted anticipatory bail to JJ hospital dean T P Lahane, who was booked in an atrocity case. The court, however, has asked Lahane to report to the local police station, as and when they call him, to support the investigation.

According to complainant Naresh Waghela, Dr Lahane had used derogatory and abusive words against him. Waghela also alleged that Dr Lahane passed casteist remarks, prompting the conservancy worker to file a police complaint.

Advocate Swapana Kode, who represented Dr Lahane in the court, claimed in the court that his client had been framed and the issue was a conspiracy to remove from his post.

The court granted anticipatory bail to Dr Lahane on a cash surety of Rs 15,000. Advocate Kode said, "From Friday onwards my client would initiate with its duties in JJ hospital."

Lahane files complaint against lab technician

Meanwhile, Dr Lahane filed a non-cognisable complaint with the JJ Marg police against laboratory technician Anand Mohan accusing him of posting defamatory posters against him at the hospital's main gate. Lahane, in his complaint, alleged that Mohan, who is also a member of a body of lab technicians across the state, had put up posters carrying a message in Marathi that the dean of this hospital was casteist. The JJ Marg police have registered a case under section 501 (printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory) of the Indian Penal Code.
