Dr Manikrao Salunkhe appointed new VC of YCMOU

Dr Manikrao Salunkhe has been appointed as the vice chancellor (VC) of Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) in Nashik.

Dr Salunkhe will take the charge today, from presiding vice chancellor Dr Arun Jamkar who is the vice chancellor of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS). Since the demise of the then incumbent VC Dr Krishnakumar on January 21, 2014, Dr Jamkar was holding the additional charge as VC of YCMOU.

Dr Salunkhe's appointment as the 14th VC of YCMOU has been made by chancellor and Maharashtra governor K Shankarnarayan after the due process of selection.

Hailing from Dhangaon in Sangali district, Dr Salunkhe was born on April 5, 1955 in a farmer's family that recognised the importance of education. He completed his school education in Dhangaon and Bhilwad and then studied Chemistry at Vivekand college in Kolhapur. After his PhD in Chemistry, he began his career in education as a lecturer at Vivekand College. He further went on to do research in Isreal and North Western University in USA. He has presented 134 research papers and has a patent in his name. He has been a UGC Research Fellow and National Associate. He also has the experience as Vice Chancellor of Shivaji University.
