Putting to rest rumours about the state government transferring probe in the Dr Govind Pansare murder case from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the state government informed the Bombay High Court that the SIT will continue with the investigation.

A division bench of justices SC Dharmadhikari and Dr Shalini Phansalkar Joshi came down heavily on the two agencies probing the Dr Narendra Dabholkar and Pansare case. "For how long will these investigations continue? The victims' family members and the public at large have already got an impression that the agencies are going soft on some organisation, don't let the court also get the same impression."

The agencies have till now arrested one person each in the murder cases, both allegedly belonging to the Sanathan Sanstha. The bench said, "The investigation has to be completed at the earliest; it will not only improve confidence in the mind of the people, but also send a message across the world that no crime will go unpunished."

The court also warned Dabholkar's family members who intend to stage a campaign to mark his third death anniversary. It observed that they should instead pay homage to the deceased by taking his work forward, and they should protect themselves against uncertainties as not only the agencies but also the court needs their assistance.

The bench gave the CBI eight weeks to get the ballistics report from the Scotland Yard. Agencies, in their report submitted before court, informed that they were zeroing in on suspects and would soon complete the investigations.

The court has now adjourned the matter for eight weeks.

On May 9, 2014, the HC had transferred probe into the Dabholkar murder case to the CBI. The main reason for transferring the case was that the court felt the need for a detailed probe. Both Dabholkar and Pansare were killed by unidentified shooters in separate incidents when they were on their morning walk.
