The state government's ambitious project to construct a memorial for Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar at Indu Mills in Dadar near Chaityabhoomi will be completed by April 14, 2020.
On Friday, the eve of Ambedkar Jayanti, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inspected the site and the replica of the memorial, which also includes a 351-feet statue of the leader who is an icon for all oppressed classes.
"We are committed and working hard to build this grand memorial of Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar of international repute and visible amount of work would be done by 2019 and final completion on 14th April 2020."
Fadnavis tweeted on Friday.
Fadnavis, who was accompanied by social justice minister Rajkumar Badole, minister of state Dilip Kamble, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) commissioner UPS Madan, and others, asked for the work to be completed in a time-bound manner. He added that an international-level memorial would be constructed and people would be able to see it from Bandra Worli sea link.
Officials said that the shore piling work had started at the site. An official said the statue would be built on a 90-feet "monumental building" and the designing of the statue was currently underway.

Badole said the project would also include an auditorium with a seating capacity of around 1,000 people, a Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar research centre, meditation centre, a replica of the Chavdar lake at Mahad in Raigad, a Gautam Buddha idol and Bodhi tree, library with around 10,000 books, a 2.5km walkway till the base of the statue, and other amenities like restaurants.
