Amid rumours about transfer of Thane district collector Ashwini Joshi, BJP MLA Sanjay Kelkar met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, asking him not to transfer an honest officer.

After the transfer of joint commissioner of police VV Laxminarayana, the city is now abuzz with talks of transfer of Joshi since the past two days. While the collectorate's office has refrained from giving any confirmation, Kelkar approached the CM.

On January 28, in a letter given to the CM, Kelkar said wrote, "Joshi has a clean image among public and has taken action against a lot of illegal activities in Thane in the past one year since her transfer." He further wrote, "If she is transferred abruptly then it will send a wrong message to the public."

Joshi has been at the forefront in stopping the illegal sand mining activities in Thane district. She has personally conducted many raids on illegal sand dredgers in Thane, Bhiwandi, Kalyan and other parts of the district. Among her other works, she had fined the son of a Bhiwandi MLA of over Rs1.30 crore for illegal quarrying. When we contacted Joshi to ask about her transfer, she said, "I am in a collector's conference at Pune."
