The city crime branch on Wednesday arrested a 34-year-old domestic help for allegedly stealing ornaments worth Rs20.50 lakh from the residence of a 77-year-old woman at Worli sea face. The arrested person has been identified as Ankush Kadam.

According to the police, complainant Subhaga Piyush Amin lives on the 11th floor of Urmi building. Kadam stayed in the servant's room of the same flat. Along with Kadam, Sitaram Sangne, another domestic help, worked for Amin. While Sangne has been working since 2006, Kadam was relatively new in the residence.

"On April 28, Amin had kept ornaments worth Rs20.50 lakh in the cupboard of her bedroom and the keys were with her. Next day, when she found the ornaments missing, she informed her daughter about it. She asked both Kadam and Sangne about the theft but did not get any satisfactory reply from them. After this, she approached the Worli police," said a crime branch officer.

He added that since Kadam is the one who normally cleans up the bedroom, he has been arrested on suspicion. Kadam is in police custody till May 3.
