Domestic help attacks, robs elderly couple in Khar

Two senior citizens from Khar sustained injuries, one of them grievously, after their househelp attacked and robbed them of jewelleries worth Rs3.82 lakh on Thursday. The elderly couple had employed the domestic help, identified as 38-year-old Satnam Sachdev, only 22 days ago. The crime took place at Mishra House, Road No.4. According to the police, the couple have been identified as Hirachand Jain (82), and Personben Jain (79).

On Thursday, Sachdev came for work early than the usual time. S Varpe, PI of Khar police said, "Sachdev usually comes to work at 8am. However, on Thursday, he came around 7am with an intention to rob." When Personben was in the hall, Sachdev tried to steal gold bangles Personben was wearing. When she resisted, he pulled out a heavy weapon made of steel and attacked her. When she fell unconscious, he took out the jewellery and headed towards the bedroom where Hirachand was. "He attacked him with the weapon and ransacked the cupboards and fled away with cash, diamond and gold jewellery worth Rs3.82 lakhs. Before leaving he tied them and dumped them in the bathroom.

A few hours later, the duo managed to free themselves cried for help. The neighbours heard their plea and called the police. The couple's family live in the same building on another floor, said the police.

While Personben sustained severe injuries in the head, Hirachand suffered minor injuries. Both of them are being treated at Bhabha Hospital. The duo's relative registered a case with the Khar police. A case of robbery has been registered and a team has been deployed to nab the accused. "The accused does not have any family or friends in the city and lived in different places. We suspect he may have fled the city," added Varpe.
