Two unidentified men cheated a septuagenarian on a busy Dombivli road while she was walking towards her home. The 70-year-old woman, a resident of Ganesh Nagar, lost gold ornaments worth Rs60,000.
The victim had come out to buy fish from the market when she came across the accused, who tricked her into giving away the ornaments. When they walked away, the woman realised the con and screamed for help. She then reported the incident at the Vishnu Nagar police station.
"We have registered a case under section 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intent) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). We will check the CCTV cameras in the locality and are investigating further," said a police officer.
A senior police officer said, "We have conducted several programmes for senior citizens, warning them to not hand over valuables to unknown persons."
