Doctor arrested on rape charge in Mumbai

A 48-year-old doctor was arrested by Mulund police on Saturday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 17-year-old patient.

According to Mulund police, when the victim first visited the doctor's Mulund clinic for treatment, the accused took her pictures. On Friday when she again visited the clinic, the doctor took her to Thane and on the way allegedly raped her in the car near Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP).

"The girl had gone to the clinic for treatment, and as per her complaint, the doctor clicked her pictures, and on Friday took her to Thane and raped her," said an officer with Mulund police.

After the alleged rape, the victim approached Kapurbawdi police, who registered a case of rape. Later it was transferred to Mulund police station.

The accused has been booked under sections 376 (rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) and sections 4 (penetrative sexual assault), 8 (sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) along with relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.

Deputy commissioner of police, Zone VII, confirming the incident said: "We have made the arrest. Investigation is on."
