As the chances of finding survivors started fading on Saturday, rescuers found a miracle in the form of Chandrashekhar Jadhav who was rescued after 32 hours.
Doctors call his rescue a miracle as he suffered only a leg injury that will heal soon. His brother Jaiprakash said, “It was a miracle when we came to know that he has survived but his daughters were not that lucky. We have not told him.
He is under observation in critical care unit.”
Ashok Solanki and his elder daughter Meenal were rescued after eleven hours. “I was awake and getting ready to leave for work when the incident happened. I pulled Meenal towards me when the building started collapsing. Because of the fridge and cupboard we managed to survive the crash,” said Solanki.
“I used whatever I could find to help Meenal breathe and to calm her down. She was frightened as the slab had fallen on her left leg,” said Solanki who had shot a one minute video on his cell phone inside the debris. Solanki lost his wife Daya (29) and another daughter Avani (3).
Solanki works in BMC’s F-South department as conservancy staff. On hearing the news of his wife and daughter’s death, Solanki requested the doctors to allow him leave the hospital for cremation.
Anuja Sawant (40) along with her son Megh (8) and husband Naresh (45) were safely pulled out of the debris last night.
Her daughter Tejal (15) wasn’t that lucky. “My son was with me and luckily he has no injuries. We were all scared for our survival and kept shouting for help,” said Anuja. She and her husband are both stable; her husband Naresh has not yet come to terms with his daughter’s death.
