The advertisements of the world would have us believe that Youth is something one can achieve by popping a magic pill, chugging an energy beverage or smearing on some magical lotion. In my circle, the youngest person I know is not a newborn, but someone I work with, who struts around like a cowboy-on-a-draw, dresses with the panache of one as well, has the best insights in a meeting, can do a 100 push-ups and keeps himself updated on every topic possible. It is only incidental that he is 60+! What one learns from a person like him is: age is a number, it is your spirit that defines you.

The entire project of seeking Young Turks from Mumbai, who are 30 and below, was to evaluate that very spirit in those individuals. This special feature is to celebrate, honour and encourage these bright sparks. But that is not the only purpose of this exercise. It is a call to the Indian youth to seek that spirit within themselves. To do something with passion and ownership. To set some benchmarks early on in life, which would in turn inspire the nation at large.

As the cult song goes, Time Is On My Side; if you interpret Life with that catchphrase, Youth becomes just that, the belief that you have your entire life ahead of you to explore, discover and excel in. Go on, make Time do your bidding...your age nothwithstanding.
