If you have a smartphone or a computer, you needn’t worry about locating your polling stations next elections.

All you need to do is use the Google Maps app on your phone to get directions to the designated polling station.

Designed by the Electoral Commission, the mobile application will help voters reach their polling station without any hassles. The state has carried out satellite mapping of all polling stations across the state.

Polling station maps across India are being plotted and being made available on the website www.eci-polldaymonitoring.nic.in.

“A voter can search for his name on the electoral roll and then locate the polling station. Google Maps will help the voter reach there without any problem,” said an official of the electoral department.

The voter will not only be able to locate the polling station but also see the satellite image of the building and roads leading to it.

One can either use a cell phone or log on to a computer and visit the website to locate the polling station. The voter will able to find the state for which maps are available and select the district, assembly constituency and polling station names from drop-down lists. One has to then click a button to see the polling station location of the selected area on the map.

“It is almost ready; we are fine-tuning features for Google Maps. It should be available to voters before the Lok Sabha elections,” said the official.

The election commission’s website already provides an option or a link for voters to search for their names in the electoral rolls, find their address and enrolment number and the polling station where they are to cast their votes.
