The Borivli police on Thursday registered a case against four unidentified persons for allegedly assaulting a photographer working with DNA. The photographer, BL Soni, had gone on an assignment to a Navratri pandal at Borivli (West) to cover the celebrations.

According to the police, the incident took place when Soni, who arrived at Kora Kendra in Borivli (West), was entering the pandal premises when four men at the gate stopped him. Soni told them that he is a press photographer and wanted to click pictures of the garba celebrations there. Despite showing them his identification card, men at the gate did not let him enter and asked him to leave. When Soni protested, they dragged him to the ticket counter where he was assaulted. “I asked them to let me stand near the gate but they did not agree and dragged me to the ticket counter and began to hit me. They slapped and punched me. I was illegally detained by these goons due to which I couldn’t even call the police for help. All this happened in front of the event organiser,” said Soni.

Bhagwan Chate, senior inspector of the Borivli police, said, “We have registered a complaint under Sections 323 (punishment for causing hurt), 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 504 (intentional insult) and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against four unidentified men.
