The Maharashtra State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR) has decided to take suo motu cognizance of a report that appeared in dna on Friday about a 12-year-old boy who was thrashed and stripped by a transport company staffer for allegedly stealing spare parts from his vehicle in Wadala.
On Thursday, the boy and his three friends allegedly stole material worth a few thousand rupees from a Balaji Cargo Movers truck. While his friends escaped, the boy was beaten up and made to strip. “The commission has decided to take suo motu action in the matter,” an official from the commission said. “From what we know, the act is a gross violation of a child’s basic rights under the Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act 2005, and The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2000,” A N Tripathi, MSCPCR secretary, said.
He added that the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 may also be applied if necessary. “Once a date for the hearing is fixed, the concerned parties will be asked to appear before the commission,” an official said.
