After DNA reported about the errors which were detected in the Class X History and Political Science textbooks, the subject committee has decided to fix these errors in the next edition of the books.
Responding to an email sent by DNA which pointed out the errors in the textbook, the Chairman of the Civics subject committee Shrikant Paranjape said “We have decided to fix the errors that have taken place in the current edition of the textbook. The changes have been incorporated and would be reflected in the next edition of the book”.
The committee has decided to fix all the spelling and syntax errors in the book. Wrongly written acronyms have also been fixed, informed Paranjape. The book consisted of a paragraph on EVM machines for elections and had previously claimed that the None of the Above (NOTA) option was available only after EVM machines were introduced in the election procedure. It completely ignored the provision of filling a seperate form for NOTA which existed in the old ballot system. The committee has now decided to drop the sentence containing the false claim.
However, the committee has decided to retain the contentious paragraph on reservations which mentions that the ‘policy of reservation of seats is meant for those sections of the society who have been deprived of opportunities for education and employment for a long period of time’ without any mention of the word ‘social exclusion’ that is the foundational basis for the reservation policy in India. “The earlier paragraph gives the explanation on social justice and equality. Hence there was no need to be repetitive” said Paranjape.
