After sitting over the case for more than two years, the state government finally issued orders for terminating the services of a senior Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) official who had secured a coveted post in the regulatory body by giving false information.
Nitin Deore, the former assistant commissioner (drugs) at Aurangabad, was shown the door on August 20 after an inquiry report indicted him of having forged documents in order to obtain a position in the FDA.
The report submitted by the FDA vigilance department to the state said that Deore’s claims to have worked between July 1, 1996 to July 9, 2001, at Crosland Research Laboratory for five years in the research and development department before joining FDA were bogus and fake.
The criteria for aspirants who apply for a Class I officer’s posts like that of assistant commissioner in FDA should have a minimum five years’ experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing sector.
“Deore had forged reference and experience letters on the letterhead of Croslands Research Labs, a company which shut down in 1998. The lab was later merged with Ranbaxy.
Deore’s sister Smita Varan worked in the company till 1998 and forged the letters for her brother,” said RP Yajurvedi Rao, president, Society for Awareness of Civil Rights in Mumbai.
dna had reported on July 26, 2011, the findings of an RTI application filed by Rao which brought to fore the fact that Deore claimed to be working at three different places at one time, including the fictitious set-up of Croslands Research Labs.
Another certificate from BJ Medical College, Pune, said that he was working with the college as a class II chemist from August 2003 to October 2008 and later as a pharmacist cum class II chemist till July 2009. However, during the period Deore was working with Croslands, and he has a certificate from Pune University claiming that he was a “full time student” of MBA.
Rao alleged that FDA had been hiring officials without bothering to check their qualifications.
FDA commissioner Mahesh Zagade said, “Deore has been terminated from services and he will not be able to work in FDA from now on. The inquiry has revealed that he has forged his job experience letters.”
