Repair works on Dattapada flyover on Western Express Highway is nearing completion. The work began after dna reported about the damaged expansion joints on the southbound bridge at Borivli.

"It has been over a week since we took up the repair work of Dattapada flyover. We expect it to be ready in another 8-10 days," said Jayant Mhaiskar, MD of Mumbai Entry Points, the agency responsible for maintenance and repairs of flyovers in the city.

"The work may also get done within a week's time. Thereafter, the flyover will be open for motorists," added Mhaiskar.

On May 12, dna had reported about three neglected bridges in Mumbai leading to structural problems that have not been repaired for months or years now. The bridges are Dattapada flyover at Borivli, Sion and King's Circle bridges on Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road.

Although one bridge has been taken care of, the other two are still in a neglected state with BMC officials not taking up the repair job.

On Sion flyover, all bearings are worn out, possibly because they are of an inferior quality resulting in uneven expansion joints and making motoring experience bumpy.

The 30-year-old King's Circle (Aurora) flyover has similar problems. The expansion joints here too have given away deteriorating its structural safety and making it a bumpy ride for the public.
