After DNA highlighted that lights inside the twin tunnels of the 16-km-long Eastern Freeway on the Chembur-end have been out of order for over a week, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday issued a statement saying it is installing temporary lights inside the tunnels till the time work on installing new lighting system is completed inside the tunnel.

DNA in its report dated 23 March had highlighted how the tunnel had become dangerous for motorists owing to the darkness. BMC, in a statement, said, “The cables that supply electricity have been lifted by anti-social elements in the area and we have filed a complaint with RCF Police station in Chembur. We are also arranging temporary lights till the time whole lighting system is not fixed.”
