Taking a note of dna's report published on July 9, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Undertaking has got into action to provide temporary alternative power connection for uninterrupted electric supply to a senior citizen on non-invasive ventilator at Gamdevi.

On July 9, dna had reported how Guru Dutt Kadle had a harrowing time due to the BEST staff's insensitivity. The family as well as neighbourhood had made over 100 SOS calls to the BEST pleading restoration of power so that the non-invasive ventilator, air-conditioning system and oxygen concentrate could function for Kadle's ailing mother. With no positive response from the authorities, the family finally had to borrow power from the neighbouring building using extension cables to keep the medical systems running.

Kadle said, "dna's coverage ensured the BEST promptly installed a new temporary cable for our building wing which will give us uninterrupted power till the problem is solved."

A BEST official said "The power cable of Saraswat building at Laburnum Road in Gamdevi has a technical fault and due to that repeated tripping of electricity has been taking place. In order to address the problem, the road will have to be dug up and there is no saying how long it will take. Therefore, temporary connection has been provided till the time the fault is rectified."

"BEST's divisional engineer Mr Anand Kandage has been constantly in touch with me and has assured to keep two of his engineers on standby round the clock for any emergencies in the area, especially during the night," added Kadle.
