I have been participating in the dna ICan women's half marathon since its first edition because this initiative is meant for women, and every woman should participate in it. I like the slogan "I can" and take it as a challenge. The slogan is positive and helps is overcome even our many daily challenges. I am very fond of fitness and being healthy but I had never participated in a marathon before. The dna ICan women's half marathon gave me a platform to run for a cause which supports women. Also, being a teacher, since I talk about being healthy to my students, my participation helped me communicate to them that it is not only preaching but also practicing on my part. I hope it sets an example. At the inaugural edition of the marathon in 2012, I ran the 5km Fun Run, but in 2013 and this year, I would run the complete 21km half marathon. I support education for the girl child and firmly believe that while the stereotype is changing, a collective effort is needed to make a change. I am asking my friends to participate and urging them to join and run or, at least, walk. I feel more and more women should take some time out for their own health with the same level of commitment they have for their families.
