Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation CEO P Anbalagan told DNA, "Maharashtra is abundant with human resource but skilling it to meet present-day demand is a challenge, as conventionally skilling was restricted to engineering. Now it is required in industry 4.0. Expert organisations from industry and academia will impart the required skill set to our workforce.''

The state will also engage anchor units and MNCs from the thrust sectors. "The objective is to skill the workforce as per industry expectations and demand. Crucial trades are being identified to impart training in the form of certificate and short-term courses,'' said a senior industries department officer.

He explained that skilling is needed especially when manufacturing accounts for 25% in the state's total industrial production and it has potential to create 10 lakh of the proposed total 40 lakh jobs by 2024. Further, the government under the Chief Minister Employment Generation Programme plans to assist 1 lakh units -20,000 units annually. This will help create 10 lakh jobs.
