In a relief to realty developers and promoters, the state government did away with the provision where the latter had to inform the state labour department about the commencement of work and deployment of labour on project sites in Greater Mumbai.

Instead, it will be the responsibility of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to make the information on the commencement and completion of construction and deployment of labour by developers and promoters at the project site available to the labour department. State industries, labour and energy department has issued a notification in this regard on January 18.

State labour department officer told DNA, "A decision in this regard was taken at the recent meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary DK Jain. The project promoter and developer had to take permission and no objection from the labour department before the commencement of work at the project site for the deployment of labour. The process was time-consuming and therefore BMC will online disseminate information in this regard to the labour department.''

Builders' Association of India's infrastructure committee chairman Anand Gupta said that the online intimation by BMC to labour department will reduce the malpractices and also the time spent on unproductive work. ''This is certainly government's attempt to facilitate ease of doing business,'' he noted.

BMC officer informed that series of measures to improve ease of doing business especially for the realty sector have been implemented. ''Some of the steps include integration of a single window clearance system to issue a construction permit, auto-generation of no objection certificate and remarks on stormwater disposal, reduction in reinstatement charges and introduction of joint site inspection,'' he said.

ROLE SHUFFLE

It will be the BMC’s duty to make information on commencement and completion of construction of a project and deployment of labour at the site available to the labour department
