As we all gear up for the final day of the dna eco-Ganesha celebrations, presented by Tata Housing, one must be conscious of beaches' condition after the idols are immersed.

As part of its environmentally-friendly initiative, dna has already organised a clean-up drive at Juhu beach immediately after visarjan. Hundreds of volunteers, associated with Juhu Angels, a Juhu-based NGO, with help from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), will clean up garlands, food wrappers and idol remains at the beach.

Speaking to dna, Larsen Fernandes, who is part of the Juhu Angels group, said that the NGO usually comes to the beach by 4.00 am to start cleaning. "We hope to pick up the garbage left behind by people before the morning walkers arrive," he said.

Despite the BMC leaving several boxes to dump the garlands after visarjan, a number of people end up leaving them on the shore. "The BMC will be providing us 40-50 dumpers to ensure that the beach is clean," added Fernandes, adding that volunteers will be provided with safety equipment while collecting the trash.
