Sheetal Bokade, has made the family proud by securing 92.40 per cent at the Class 10 board exams.
The Bokade family living in Prabhadevi's Kamgar Nagar 2 has been beaming with joy for the last few days. Their daughter, Sheetal Bokade, has made the family proud by securing 92.40 per cent at the Class 10 board exams.
Even as the family is celebrating Sheetal's success, they are now worried about funding her higher education. The Bokade's live in a rented space in Kamgar Nagar's slums. Sheetal's father works as a daily wager at Dadar flower market while her mother earns a paltry sum by removing the excess threads from garments at their house. The small 10x10 room is where Sheetal studied for her exams despite all the odds that came her way.
A student of Prabhadevi Municipal Secondary School, Sheetal attributes her success to her parents and school. "I want to thank my parents and my school for supporting me in my studies. It is due to their hardwork and guidance that I have been able to achieve this feat. Our school used to have special coaching for us to improve our performance which really helped," said Sheetal.
She now aspires to be a scientist, for which studying science at college will be a requirement. "I always wanted to take up Science as I like research. My dream is to go to ISRO and make our country proud," added Sheetal.
However, Sheetal's wish to study Science seems like a distant dream for her parents who cannot afford to fund her expenses for college and coaching. "We have already taken a Rs 60,000 loan for our son's education as he is studying BSc IT. Now, we cannot take more loans and are struggling to make ends meet. If Sheetal gets a donor, she can fulfil her and our family's dream," said her mother Kavita.
Sheetal is now keeping her fingers crossed. "I really wish some miracle would happen." she added.
