DNA CAMPAIGN: Lack of finance may quash boy’s engineering dreams

Tanmay Dhawale, a student from Karanja taluka in Maharashtra’s Washim district has beaten all odds that came his way by scoring 97.40 per cent this year to succeed at his class 10 board exams.

Tanmay’s father has been bedridden for the last two years due to his prolonged battle with asthma while his mother is visually challenged. The family lives a hand-to-mouth existence with both the earning members unable to go outside and work. Despite all these hardships, Tanmay worked hard through the year to score an impressive percentage.

“My son is very bright since childhood. We are very poor and live in a small rented apartment. We do petty jobs to earn some money. Despite this, Tanmay would always score well in his exams. We are proud of his achievements but cannot support his education financially with all our constraints,” said his mother Vijaya.

After his success at the boards, Tanmay now aspires to become an engineer and wants to study at one of the IITs. “I would like to pursue Science at junior college. My family cannot afford the expenses involved which might end my dreams if we get no help,” said Tanmay.  

With the help of his school—JD Chavare Vidya Mandir in Karanja, Tanmay has now enrolled into the Shahu Maharaj Junior college at Latur but the family is worried about the other expenses that will crop up during his education.
